The Technical Sales Manager owns specific customers and is responsible for driving profitable business growth within the industry through proactively identifying customer and market problems/trends and bringing technical application expertise as well as new products/solutions to the market.

The position is primarily based in the Öresund-region and you will have your base at our office in Malmö (great new offices in Hyllie). Candidates from other parts of the Nordics are also welcome, we have offices in both the Copenhagen- (Ballerup), Stockholm- and Gothenburg-area. A home office model is also fully doable if living far away from a Brenntag office. You will report to the Business Manager Coatings and Construction North. You will be part of a successful, collaborative team with colleagues in various commercial roles such as product management, internal account management, external account management. Further, you will also be part of a European network of Technical Sales Managers within CASE (Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants and Elastomers) & Construction industry sector as well as working closely with our laboratories in Europe.

You will spend much time enabling business and travelling is required. Approx. 2-3 days travel/week which you plan flexibly whereof some travelling is just travelling over the day.

Key Areas of responsibility

Customer Business Development

  • Provide technical support to customers
  • Participate in the writing and management of proposals, presentations, workshops and marketing materials to support specific opportunity pursuits
  • Carry out customer visits and consult customers to identify and develop the right technical solution for them
  • Present newly developed applications/solutions to relevant customers and convince them of their benefit (close projects) (includes providing samples and trial runs with the customers)
  • Manage project pipeline of customer projects that will deliver required growth
  • Ensure safety is the first priority and that all activities are conducted in accordance with quality, health, safety and environmental management systems as well as corporate and local policies

Application development

  • Proactively identify market and customer application needs/trends in the assigned focus industry together with the team
  • Help to define and support in the execution of strategic growth plans/campaigns in collaboration with the relevant sales management/teams and Industry Marketing Management on (new) applications/ formulations

Market know how development and management

  • Maintain an up-to-date level of product, technical, and application knowledge
  • Keep up to date with changes and updates in the market
  • Establish and maintain regular contact with third party research groups and industrial research consortia to advance knowledge base and solicit new business opportunities
  • Attend relevant trade shows with an established goal of furthering customer relationships and identifying new opportunities
  • Uncover new business leads within the assigned application/industry sector
  • Develop material and documentation support for the Account Managers
  • Engage with Technical Sales Managers in other regions to share/learn from best practices and collaborate on new business opportunities
  • Work closely with our laboratories in Europe

Admin

  • Ensure appropriate data administration and documentation of all business cases in the local CRM system (e.g., post processing of visits, customer potentials)

We are looking for

The ideal candidate can have various backgrounds. Regardless of background, you need to have a strong commercial drive and really get energy from helping customers and deliver ingredients and solutions needed in customer applications. Today you might work at a manufacturer, in the same business as Brenntag, or be working on the customer side. You could currently be working in a commercial role in a technical context or in a more technical/R&D/lab-oriented role wishing to embark on a more commercially flavoured role.

Required experience

  • Experienced in the chemical business, preferably in a technical and/or sales capacity (3-5 years and upwards)
  • Chemistry degree, academic level
  • An understanding of formulations and the knowledge of what effect the different ingredients gives to the finished product
  • Knowledge within water-based products is a strong advantage, but not a requirement
  • Fluent in Swedish and/or Danish and good English language skills are a must, knowledge of other foreign languages is an advantage but not a must
  • Willingness to travel
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Detail oriented, but with a hands-on approach
